The Kingdom of Thailand (TheKingdomofThailand), referred to as Thailand, the capital city of Bangkok, is located in the south-central part of the Central and South China Peninsula, southeast of the Gulf of Thailand in the Pacific Ocean, southwest of the Andaman Sea in the Indian Ocean. The western and northwestern border with Myanmar, northeastern and Laos adjacent to the east, east of Cambodia, south of Malaysia. It has a tropical monsoon climate, and the terrain is high in the north and low in the south. With a total area of 513,000 square kilometers and a coastline of 2,705 kilometers, the country is divided into five regions with 77 provinces. Thailand has a total population of 67.9 million (as of January 2024), with more than 30 ethnic groups, including the Thai as the main ethnic group, and Laotian, Chinese, Malay, etc. More than 90% of the population believes in Buddhism, and Thai is the national language.
In 1238 A.D., Thailand formed a relatively united country, which went through the Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, Thonburi and Bangkok dynasties, and was originally known as Siam. 16th century, Portugal, Holland, Britain, France and other colonialists invaded one after another, and in 1896, the British and French signed a treaty, which stipulated that Siam was a buffer state between British Burma and French Indochina, making Siam the only country in Southeast Asia that hadn't fallen into colonialism. At the end of the 19th century, King Rama IV opened the country to the outside world and King Rama V carried out social reforms based on Western experience; in June 1932, the People's Party staged a coup d'état and changed the monarchy to a constitutional monarchy, and in 1949, the country was officially named Thailand.
Thailand is one of the newly industrialized countries and a market economy with a liberal economic policy and an externally oriented economy.
