Henan Province, abbreviated as "Yu", is a provincial-level administrative region of the People's Republic of China, with Zhengzhou as its capital, and is the country's main agricultural products producing area and an important mineral resources province, a large province with a large population, an important comprehensive transportation hub and a center of people, logistics, and information flow, as well as a large agricultural province and a large province of grain conversion and processing. It is located in the east-central part of China and the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, bordering Anhui and Shandong in the east, Hebei and Shanxi in the north, Shaanxi in the west and Hubei in the south, with a total area of 167,000 square kilometers.
The topography of Henan Province is oriented from north to south and from east to west, high in the west and low in the east, and consists of plains and basins, mountains, hills, and water surfaces; it spans the four major river basins of the Haihe River, the Yellow River, the Huaihe River, and the Yangtze River. Most of the land is located in the warm temperate zone, the south across the subtropics, is a continental monsoon climate of the transition from the northern subtropics to the warm temperate zone; Henan is located in the combination of the coastal open area and the central and western regions, is China's economy from east to west to promote the development of the intermediate zone of the gradient.
Henan Province is the important birthplace of the Chinese nation and the Huaxia civilization, and the core area of the Xia, Shang and Zhou civilizations, which laid the foundation for the continuous development of the Chinese civilization, coalesced into a mature civilization form between the river and the Luo River, and formed a radiating pattern of domination centered on the king's capital. Historically, more than 200 emperors of more than 20 dynasties have built their capitals in Henan. Henan Province is the first in the country in terms of underground cultural relics and the second in terms of aboveground cultural relics, making it a major province in terms of cultural relics. The culture of Henan is represented by the "Central Plains Culture".
As of March 2023, Henan Province has 17 prefectural-level cities, 21 county-level cities (including one county-level city under provincial jurisdiction), 82 counties, 54 municipal districts, 1,180 townships, 586 townships, and 692 street offices. By the end of 2022, the province's resident population was 98.72 million.
In 2023, Henan province's gross domestic product (GDP) was 5,913.239 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%.
