The Socialist Republic of Vietnam (Vietnamese: CộnghòaXãhộiChủnghĩaViệt Nam, English: Socialist Republic of Vietnam), abbreviated as Viet Nam, is a socialist country in Asia. Located at the southeast end of the Central and Southern Peninsula in Southeast Asia, with a long and narrow topography, slightly S-shaped, bordering China's Guangxi and Yunnan in the north and Laos and Cambodia in the west, the country has a long and narrow land area of about 330,000 square kilometers, adjacent to the South China Sea, with a coastline of more than 3,260 kilometers, and is a multi-ethnic country dominated by Kinh ethnicity, with a population of 103 million people (2023), and the country is divided into 58 provinces and five municipalities.
It became an independent feudal state in 968 A.D. In 1884, it became a French protectorate, and on September 2, 1945, it declared independence and established the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. In September of the same year, France invaded Vietnam again and Vietnam fought a war against the French. in July 1954, the Geneva Agreement on the restoration of peace in Indochina was signed, liberating the north of Vietnam, while the south of Vietnam was still ruled by the French (and later established the South Vietnamese Regime fostered by the U.S.A.). from 1961, Vietnam began to carry out a war of resistance against the U.S.A. to save the country, and in January 1973, Vietnam and the U.S.A. signed the Agreement on the end of the war in Vietnam and the restoration of peace in Paris. In January 1973, Vietnam and the United States signed an agreement in Paris to end the Vietnam War and restore peace, and American troops began to withdraw from the south, which was completely liberated in May 1975, and in April 1976, a unified National Assembly was elected, and the country was declared united on July 2, with the name of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
In 1986, the country began the process of innovation and liberalization, and in 2001, the Ninth Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPC) decided to establish a socialist market economy. The Communist Party of Viet Nam is the only ruling party in the country. Viet Nam is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, the World Trade Organization, a founding member of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), and one of the 11 future countries, with a gross domestic product (GDP) of $430 billion in 2023, a per capita GDP of $4,284 and a GDP growth rate of 5.05 per cent.
