Taiyuan, a city in northeastern Vietnam, is located on the banks of the Seek River, the capital of Taiyuan Province, with an urban area of 177 square kilometers and a population of 330,000 people (2010), it is the larger industrial city (Steel City) in northern Vietnam and one of the major industrial cities in Vietnam. It has Taiyuan Iron and Steel Company, one of the top 20 state-owned enterprises in Vietnam. There is the first steel industrial zone in Vietnam, including a blast furnace, steel rolling mill, non-ferrous metal smelter, power plant, in addition to a paper mill and diesel engine factory. Taiyuan also has a medical university, a teacher-training university and the North Vietnam Museum. The city is easily accessible, with two railroads entering Taiyuan from the south and east. The railroad from Hanoi to Taiyuan is 73 kilometers long. Highway 3 runs 79 kilometers from Hanoi to Taiyuan.
