Hai Duong Province (Vietnamese: TỉnhHảiDương/province Hai Duong) is located in the Red River Plain region of northern Vietnam, bordering Taiping, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, and Hung Yen provinces, 60 kilometers from Hanoi and 40 kilometers from Hai Phong (the largest port in the north of Vietnam), with Hai Duong City as its capital city, with a population of 1,735,100 (2012 data) with an area of 1,656 square kilometers.
In the process of economic development, Hai Duong province and the surrounding Hai Phong city and Quang Ninh province have become the three corners of economic development in North Vietnam. National Highway 5 (highway) from Hanoi to Hai Phong and the railroad pass through Hai Duong.
