Guangdong Province, abbreviated as "Yue", is a provincial administrative region of the People's Republic of China, with Guangzhou as its capital. Because of the ancient name of the east of Guangxin, so the name "Guangdong". It is located to the south of the Nanling Mountains and on the coast of the South China Sea, bordering Hong Kong, Macau, Guangxi, Hunan, Jiangxi and Fujian, and across the sea from Hainan Province, with a total land area of 179,800 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Guangdong Province has 21 prefecture-level cities, 65 municipal districts, 20 county-level cities, 34 counties, and 3 autonomous counties.At the end of 2022, Guangdong Province had a resident population of 126,568,000 people, with an urbanization rate of 74.79%.
In the third year of the Song Dynasty (997), Guangnan Road was divided into Guangnan East Road and Guangnan West Road, and most of Guangdong Province belonged to Guangnan East Road, with "Guangdong" being the abbreviation of Guangnan East Road. Ming Hongwu two years (1369), changed the Guangdong Road for Guangdong and other places in the province. In the early Qing Dynasty, the name "Guangdong Province" was officially used.
Guangdong Province is an important inheritance of Lingnan culture, with a unique style in language, customs, living habits, history and culture. Guangdong Province is the southern gate of China, and is located in the shipping hub of the South China Sea. During the Han Dynasty, the ancient port of Xuwen was the starting port of the Maritime Silk Road, which officially opened the first page of the history of maritime exchanges between Chinese and Western countries. During the Qing Dynasty, Guangzhou became the only foreign trade port in China. After the reform and opening up, Guangdong became the frontier of reform and opening up and the window for introducing western economy, culture, science and technology. Since 1989, Guangdong Province has continuously ranked first in the country in terms of GDP and has become China's top economic province, accounting for 1/8th of the country's total economic output, and ranking first in the country in terms of the overall competitiveness of Guangdong's regional economy. The nine cities in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) of Guangdong Province will join hands with Hong Kong and Macao to create the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), aiming to build the fourth largest bay area in the world alongside the New York, San Francisco and Tokyo Bay Areas.
In 2023, Guangdong's GDP will reach 135,673,316 million yuan, an increase of 4.8%, making it the first province in the country to exceed 13 trillion yuan, with the total amount ranking first in the country for 35 consecutive years; the resident population will be 127 million.
