Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (宁夏回族自治区), abbreviated as "Ning", is a provincial-level administrative region of the People's Republic of China, with Yinchuan as its capital, and is one of China's five major ethnic minority autonomous regions; it is located in the inland northwestern part of the country, neighboring Shaanxi Province to the east, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the west and north, and Gansu Province to the south. temperate continental arid and semi-arid climate; under the jurisdiction of five prefecture-level cities, with a total area of 66,400 square kilometers; as of the end of 2022, the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region had a resident population of 7.28 million.
In the 24th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1287), the Ningxia Prefecture Road was established, from which Ningxia got its name. Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is one of the birthplaces of the ancient civilization of the Chinese nation. As early as 30,000 years ago in the Paleolithic Age, human beings lived and reproduced here, and Li Yuanhao, the leader of the Danghang tribe, established the Xixia Dynasty here and formed the Xixia culture. Ningxia's Shuidonggou Ruins are Paleolithic sites from 30,000 years ago. Ningxia is also a museum of the Great Wall of China, with ancient Great Wall sites from the Warring States Great Wall to the Ming Great Wall distributed in Ningxia. Ningxia is also a red land, the Red Army's Long March meeting place, the old revolutionary sites in Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia, with beautiful scenery and deep historical and cultural heritage, known as "South of the River on the Seas" in ancient and modern times.
In 2023, the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region will realize a GDP of 531.495 billion yuan, an increase of 6.6%.
