Zhoukou City, the ancient name of Chenzhou, Longdu, prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Henan Province, is located in the southeastern part of Henan Province, located in the hinterland of the Yellow-Huaikou Plain, east of Fuyang City, Anhui Province, Bozhou City, west of Luohe City, Xuchang City, south of Zhumadian City, and north of Kaifeng City, Shangqiu City, bordering the city.1949 set up the Huaiyang Prefecture, Huaiyang Prefecture was renamed the Zhoukou Prefecture in 1965 (changed to Zhoukou District in 1969); in 2000, approved by the State Council to abolish the Zhoukou District to set up the city of Zhoukou. As of June 2020, Zhoukou City has a total jurisdiction of 2 districts, 7 counties, and 1 county-level city, with a total area of 11,959 square kilometers; as of the end of 2022, the resident population of Zhoukou City was 8,812,000 people.
Zhoukou is the hometown of Emperor Xihuang and Laozi, the old land of Chenchu and the new city of Lingang, which is known as the "Pioneer of Huaxia and Sacred Sites of the Nine States".
