Taikang County, belonging to Zhoukou City, Henan Province, is located in the east of Henan Province, northwest of the Yellow-Huai Plain, and upstream of the Eddy River, a tributary of the Huaihe River. It is bordered by Zhecheng County and Luyi County in the east, Huaiyang District and Xihua County in the south, Fugou County in the west, and Tongxu County, Qixian County and Suixian County in the north, with a total area of 1,759 square kilometers. As of 2016, Taikang County has a total population of 1.465 million. As of October 2021, Taikang County has 15 towns and 8 townships under its jurisdiction. In the 23rd year of Qin Shihuang (224 BC), Yangxia County was established and belonged to Yingchuan County. In the seventh year of Sui Kaihuang (587), Yangxia County was changed to Taikang County, belonging to Chenzhou.In 2000, Zhoukou area was abolished and the prefecture-level Zhoukou City was set up, with Taikang County belonging to Zhoukou City.On May 9, 2019, Taikang County formally withdrew from the sequence of poverty-stricken counties. Historically, Taikang is full of celebrities, such as Wu Guang, the leader of peasant revolt at the end of Qin Dynasty, Huang Ba, the prime minister of Western Han Dynasty, Xie An, the tai fu of Eastern Jin Dynasty, Xie Lingyun, the literary scholar, and Xie Daoxun, the poetess, and other celebrities and giants who have shone brightly on the starry sky of Taikang's history. Taikang County is the birthplace of the Chinese Xie, Yuan, Fu and He clans, and the birthplace of the first batch of national intangible cultural heritages, Taikang Daoxiang, which is known as the world's first troupe.
