Phayao (also known as Patten Province; Thai: พะเยา; English: Phayao) is a province in the northern part of Thailand. It is about 691 kilometers from the capital city of Bangkok. It is bordered by Chiang Rai in the north, Phayao in the south, Nambu and Laos in the east, and Lampang in the west. Phayao Province is surrounded by deep mountains and dense forests, mostly inhabited by mountainous ethnic groups, and has a 17-kilometer wide Phayao Lake, the largest freshwater lake in the north of Thailand, with a well-developed fishing industry.
