Chiang Mai Province (English: ChiangMaiProvince; Thai: เชียงใหม่) is located in the northern part of Thailand, 750 kilometers from Bangkok, at an altitude of 1,070 meters above sea level, and covers an area of about 20,100 square kilometers. As of 2005, the population of the province was 1,649,457. Chiang Mai has 1 city, 22 districts, 2 sub-districts and 204 wards.
In 1998, the governor of the province was Pawit Sisupong. As of 2002, Chiang Mai has a population of 180,000.On April 2, 2000, Shanghai and Chiang Mai officially became sister cities.In September 2008, Chongqing and Chiang Mai officially became sister cities.On March 31, 2015, Chengdu and Chiang Mai officially became sister cities.
