Maha Sarakham (English: MahaSarakham; Thai: มหาสารคาม) is a province in the northeast of Thailand. It is part of the Northeast region, with a population of 947,313 (2000) and a land area of 5,292 square kilometers, and is located in the center of northeastern Thailand. It was founded in 1859, when the Siamese monarch, Rama IV, brought together several neighboring towns to form a single city under the jurisdiction of Chingay Province.
It is bounded by Khorasin Province in the north, Surin and Buriram in the south, Leh Province in the east, and Khon Kaen Province in the west.
