Wangyan Township, belonging to Funan County, Fuyang City, Anhui Province, is located in the western part of Funan County, which is the junction of two provinces and three counties, neighboring Duan Ying Township in the east, Fangjizheng Township in the south across the floodway of the Hong River, bordering Linquan's county Taolao and Aiting townships in the west, and Xiejie, Linquan, in the north by the Valley River. The area is 71.68 square kilometers, with a household population of 65,494 as of the end of 2019.
In the Sui Dynasty, the county was founded and named Yongan County (now known as Yongan Ancient City). In the 37th year of the Republic of China (1948), it was assigned to Fangji District of Funan County and named Guantang Commune.In 1958, due to renaming, it was changed to Wangyan Commune.In March 1984, the community was changed to a township.In March 1992, it was changed to a town. As of June 2020, Wangyan Town has 11 administrative villages under its jurisdiction.
