Ha Giang is a city in Vietnam. It was part of Chinese territory during the Ming Dynasty. It is the capital of Ha Giang Province. Ha Giang is situated on the Lu River about 350 kilometers upstream from Hanoi, only 20 kilometers from the border between China and Vietnam, and is therefore a trading city in the middle of the jungle and mountains. It produces tea, rice and corn. The forests not only bring timber but also provide medical herbs. The ethnic minority population consists of Dai, Miao and Yao.
