Chaoyang District, part of Beijing, is located in the south-central part of the city's main urban area, at latitude 39°49' to 40°5' north and longitude 116°21' to 116°38' east. It is bordered by Shunyi and Changping Districts in the north, Tongzhou District in the east, Fengtai and Daxing Districts in the south, and Haidian, Dongcheng and Xicheng Districts in the west, with a total area of 470.8 square kilometers and an average elevation of 34 meters. As of October 2022, Chaoyang District has 24 streets and 19 districts under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Chaoyang District had a resident population of 3,442,000 people.
Chaoyang District, named after its location outside Chaoyang Gate, is rich in historical and cultural resources, with six national key cultural relics protection units, namely Dongyue Temple, Ritan, Qing Purification City Pagoda Yard, Yuan Dadu City Wall Ruins (Chaoyang Section), Yongtong Bridge and Pingjin Lock of the Grand Canal (Chaoyang Section of the Tonghui River), and the former site of Radio Four Nine Eleven; and three municipal cultural relics protection units, namely the Ten Buddhas' Pagodas, the Beiding Niangniang Temple, and the Shuncheng County King's Mansion. Chaoyang District is an important window for Beijing's foreign exchange, with a diversified industrial pattern dominated by financial, leasing and business services, supported by high-tech industries and the development of cultural and creative industry clusters.
In 2022, Chaoyang District will realize a gross domestic product (GDP) of 791.12 billion yuan, of which the added value of the primary industry will be 300 million yuan, the added value of the secondary industry will be 51.93 billion yuan, and the added value of the tertiary industry will be 738.90 billion yuan.
