Xicheng District, part of Beijing, is located in the western center of the city. It is connected with Dongcheng District in the east; Haidian District and Chaoyang District in the north; Haidian District and Fengtai District in the west; and Fengtai District in the south. The district is 7.1 kilometers wide from east to west and 11.2 kilometers long from north to south, with a total area of 50.70 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Xicheng District has 15 streets under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Xicheng District had a resident population of 1.10 million.
Xicheng District was the seat of the capital of Yan in the Warring States period, Jicheng, and was part of Kyoto in the Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. As the founding place of Beijing for more than 3,000 years and the capital for more than 800 years, Xicheng District is a fusion area of royal and folk cultures, and an area where various cultures such as the imperial city culture, the Shizi culture, the folk culture and the religious culture are highly integrated. Xicheng District is full of scenic spots, with famous attractions such as the Temple of the Moon Park, temples of emperors and kings through the ages, Tao Ranting Park, the Beijing Grand View Garden, the Garden of Prince Henrietta, and the Garden of the Prince Gong's Mansion, among others.
In 2022, Xicheng District will realize a GDP of 570.01 billion yuan, of which the secondary industry will realize an added value of 29.39 billion yuan and the tertiary industry will realize an added value of 540.62 billion yuan. Based on the resident population, the per capita GDP of the district reaches 517,248 yuan (equivalent to 76,902 U.S. dollars at the average exchange rate).
