During the Qing Dynasty, the Shichahai area belonged to the Zhenghuang Banner, Zhenghong Banner and the Imperial City boundary. In the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), it belonged to the Nei Si, Nei Wu and Nei Liu districts, and in 1950 it belonged to the Fourth and Fifth districts, and in 1952 it belonged to the West Fourth District, and in 1958 it belonged to the Xicheng District, and in September 2004, Xinjiekou Street to the east of Xinjiekou Beidajie was merged with Fangqiao Street to form the Shichahai Street.
