Hohhot City, referred to as Hohhot, formerly known as Guisui, the Republic of China and the early years of the founding of the country as the capital of Suiyuan Province, then Suiyuan Province was abolished and incorporated into Inner Mongolia, renamed Hohhot, became the capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is a large city of type II and an important center city in the border area of northern China. It has four districts, four counties and one flag under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 17,200 square kilometers. As of 2022, Hohhot has a resident population of 3,551,100, an urban population of 2,833,900, and an urbanization rate of 79.80%.
Hohhot is located in the interior of the Asia-Europe continent, one of the central cities of the Hubao-Eqiao City Cluster, an important bridge connecting the Yellow River Economic Belt, the Asia-Europe Continental Bridge, and the Bohai Rim Economic Region, and an important border opening center city of China opening up to Mongolia and Russia.
Hohhot is a national historical and cultural city, one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization. During the pre-Qin period, King Wuling of Zhao set up Yunzhong County here, and the former site is in the realm of Tokoto County, southwest of present-day Hohhot. Hohhot city center is originally from the naturalization of the city and Suiyuan city two cities in the late Qing Dynasty Republic of China merger, so the name of Sui-Qiu Sui. 1954, renamed Hohhot, the Mongolian language means "green city".
Hohhot is a national forest city, a pilot city of national innovation, a national model city of national unity and progress, a national model city of double embracing, an excellent tourist city in China, and one of the top 100 cities of China's economic strength, and is known as "China's Dairy Capital".In December 2018, it was named one of the top 100 best business cities in mainland China. In October 2020, it was named a national model city (county) for double embrace.
In 2023, Hohhot's gross regional product was 380.155 billion yuan, calculated at constant prices, an increase of 10.0% over the previous year. Among them, the added value of primary industry is 16.75 billion yuan, an increase of 7.7%; the added value of secondary industry is 133.77 billion yuan, an increase of 15.4%; the added value of tertiary industry is 229.63 billion yuan, an increase of 7.6%.
