Kedah (Malay: NegeriKedah) is one of the thirteen states of Malaysia, with the capital city of Alor Setar and the imperial city of Anan Bukit, located on the northwestern tip of Peninsular Malaysia, with the states of Perak and Penang to its south and southwest, the state of Perlis and Thailand to its north, and the Strait of Malacca to its west. Kedah covers an area of 9,492 square kilometers, with a total population of 2,163,700 in 2018 (including 96,400 non-citizens), and 12 districts.
Kedah's predominant economies are services, manufacturing and agriculture. Kedah is a rice-producing state, and is the rice capital of Malaysia, with a GDP per capita of RM20,327 in 2017, which is lower than Malaysia's GDP per capita of RM42,228.
Kedah is sunny all year round and has a tropical rainforest climate, with major municipalities such as Sungei Da Nin and Kulim, and tourist destinations such as Langkawi Islands.
