Kelantan (Malay: Kelantan) is a state of Malaysia on the east coast of the Malay Peninsula. The capital is Kota Bharu. It is located in the northern part of the Malay Peninsula, bordering Thailand to the northeast, Perak to the west, Terengganu to the east, and Pahang to the south. The total area of the state is 14,920 square kilometers. It has a population of 1.22 million (1990).
