Kwai Tsing District is one of the 18 administrative districts of Hong Kong, China, located in the southwestern part of the New Territories, comprising Kwai Chung District (1,023 hectares) and Tsing Yi Island (960 hectares). According to the Census and Statistics Department's Population and Household Statistics by District Council district, the population in mid-2007 was about 516,600, with over 75% of the residents living in public housing. In addition to one of the world's busiest container terminals, Kwai Tsing is also home to many of Hong Kong's major infrastructural projects, including the Airport Railway, Trunk Road 3 and the Lantau Fixed Crossing, making the district Hong Kong's most important transportation hub. In addition, the district has preserved many historical sites and traditional customs.
