Tai Po District is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong, China. It is located in the eastern part of the New Territories, stretching from Tai Po Kau in the south to Pat Sin Leng in the north, bordering Tai Dao Flexi in the west, and straddling the Tolo Harbour in the east, and encompassing Tai Po, Tai Po Kau, Ting Kok, Plover Cove and part of the northern part of the Sai Kung Peninsula, with an area of 14,800 hectares in total, and it is the second largest administrative district of Hong Kong, China.
According to government statistics in 2001, Tai Po has a population of 310,879, mainly living in six major public rental housing estates and Tenants Purchase Scheme estates, as well as private housing estates in the Old Market near Tai Wo Station and the New Market near Tai Po Market Station, with many residents living in 133 villages of various sizes in the district.
In 2005, Tai Po was recognized by WHO as a "Safe Community", the 90th Safe Community in the world and the third Safe Community in Hong Kong.
