Shunyi District, part of Beijing, is located in the northeastern outskirts of the city, 30 kilometers from downtown, bordering Huairou District and Miyun District to the north, Pinggu District to the east, Tongzhou District and Sanhe City, Langfang City, Hebei Province to the south, and Changping District and Chaoyang District across the Wenyu River to the southwest and west, with a total area of 1,021 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Shunyi District has 6 streets, 7 districts and 12 towns under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Shunyi District had a resident population of 1.325 million.
Shunyi District is one of the "multiple points" in Beijing's urban spatial structure of "one core, one main area, two axes, multiple points and one district", and is also the location of the "national gate", the key plains of the capital city, and the center of the city.
