Pinggu District, Beijing municipal jurisdiction, is located in northeastern Beijing, with a total area of 948.24 square kilometers; it is neighboring Sanhe City, Hebei Province in the south, bordering Miyun District in the north, Shunyi District in the west, Jizhou District, Tianjin City in the southeast, and Xinglong County, Chengde City, Hebei Province in the northeast; the terrain is high in the northeast and low in the southwest. It belongs to the Haihe River Basin North Three Rivers Water System, there are 32 rivers in the territory, and the Shuihe River is the longest river in the territory. Pinggu District has a temperate continental monsoon climate, with four distinct seasons, the longest winter, the second longest summer, and the shortest spring and fall; it has a total area of 948.24 square kilometers, and is under the jurisdiction of 2 streets, 16 townships, and 273 villages. As of the end of 2022, the resident population of Pinggu District was 457,000 people.
Ancestors have lived and prospered in Pinggu since the Paleolithic era, and the Shangzhai culture has been discovered. Pinggu County was established in the 12th year of Emperor Gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty (195 B.C.) In March 1958, Tongxian Prefecture was abolished, and Pinggu County was transferred to Tangshan Prefecture in Hebei Province. On October 20 of the same year, Pinggu County was transferred to Beijing Municipality.In April 2002, Pinggu County was abolished and established as a district.In 2016, it was awarded the first batch of National Agricultural Product Quality Safety Counties.In 2019, it was listed as a National Intellectual Property Pilot City, a National Pilot Unit for Quality Improvement of Farmers' Cooperatives for the Whole County, and one of the first batch of pilot units for the construction of a National Rural Governance System.
In 2022, Pinggu District realized a gross regional product of 40.86 billion yuan, a 7.9% increase from 2021 at constant prices.
