Jizhou District, belonging to Tianjin Municipality, is located in the northernmost part of Tianjin Municipality, bordering Zunhua City and Yutian County to the east, Sanhe City of Hebei Province to the west, Baodi District of Tianjin Municipality to the south, Xinglong County of Hebei Province and Pinggu District of Beijing Municipality to the north, with a total area of 1,590.22 square kilometers. As of 2020, Jizhou District has a resident population of 795,500 people. As of June 2023, Jizhou District has 1 street, 25 towns, and 1 township under its jurisdiction, with the district government stationed at No. 2 Fuqian Street, Wenchang Street.
Jizhou District, a thousand-year-old county and a famous historical and cultural city in Tianjin, was known as Wujian, Yuyang and Jizhou in ancient times. According to the record of Taiping Huan Yu Ji, in the 18th year of Kaiyuan, Yuyang County, Sanhe County and Yutian County of Youzhou were divided into three counties to set up Jizhou, taking the ancient Jimen Pass as the name of the state. During the Qin Dynasty, Wufeng County was set up. In the Tang Dynasty, Wulian County (Yutian) was set up in Yuyang County. In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), Jizhou was renamed Jixian County and belonged to Shuntian Prefecture.In 1973, it was transferred to Tianjin Municipality.In 2016, Jixian County was abolished and Jizhou District was established.
