Changhua County, a part of Taiwan Province of the People's Republic of China, is located in the central part of the island of Taiwan, bordering Nantou County to the east by the Bagua Mountain Range, Taiwan Strait to the west, Yunlin County to the south by the Toushuei River, and Taichung City to the north by the Wuhi River. It is written in the tablet inscription of Changhua County by Wang Shaolan, the governor of Fujian Province, that the name of Changhua County is "the first of its kind to gain the hearts of all people, to protect the region and the people, and to manifest the imperialization of the Sacred Son of Heaven in the sea". Later, Emperor Yongzheng bestowed the name Changhua on the county with the meaning of "building a school and establishing a teacher to manifest elegance". Changhua County is the most populous county in Taiwan, and the only county with a population exceeding one million. The topography of Changhua County is dominated by plains, with the Changhua Plain to the north and the Turbid Water Creek Alluvial Plain to the south. The county is often referred to as the Central Changtou Region together with Taichung and Nantou Counties, or as the Chang-Yun-Jia Region together with three counties and cities, such as Yunlin, Chiayi, and Chia-Yi Counties.
