Lingqiu County, part of Datong City, Shanxi Province, is located in the northeastern part of Shanxi Province, in the southeastern corner of Datong City, with geographic coordinates 113°53′ to 114°33′ east longitude and 39°31′ to 39°38′ north latitude. Lingqiu has a temperate continental climate. As of 2021 Lingqiu County has 3 townships and 8 townships under its jurisdiction, with 186 administrative villages and a total area of 2,732 square kilometers. According to the seventh census data, as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, the resident population of Lingqiu County was 212,771, and it is a model county of double embrace in Shanxi Province and the hometown of organic.
Lingqiu has a long history, named after King Wuling of Zhao, who was buried here during the Warring States period when he implemented huqiu, with a history of more than 2,300 years. Lingqiu's terrain is so dangerous that it was known as "Yanyun Chokepoint" in ancient times, and it has been a place where soldiers have been fighting for generations. The famous Pingxingguan Great Victory took place here, and famous generals such as Lin Biao, Nie Rongzhen, Wang Zhen, Yang Chengwu and the international communist soldier Bai Qiu'en had fought and lived here for a long time. Lingqiu County was established in the 11th year of Emperor Gaozu's reign in the Western Han Dynasty (196 BC), and belonged to Dai County of Hezhou; after the merger of the prefecture and city in July 1993, it belonged to Datong City. As of 2021, there are 3 national and provincial highways, 9 county highways, 43 township highways and 113 village highways in Lingqiu County. Lingqiu County has tourist attractions such as the Pingxingguan Battle Site, the Tomb of King Wuling of Zhao, and the Jueshan Temple.On April 18, 2019, the Shanxi Provincial People's Government approved Lingqiu County's exit from the poverty-stricken county.
In 2022, Lingqiu County completed a GDP of 7,313,130,000 yuan, up 4.5% year-on-year.
