Park Overview
The Datong Economic and Technological Development Zone is a provincial-level development zone established in November 1992 with the approval of the provincial government. In December 2010, it was upgraded to a national-level economic and technological development zone. In 2006, the state approved a planned area of 8.2 square kilometers. Following integration and expansion in 2017, the total planned area reached 239.4 square kilometers.
Transportation and Location
The Development Zone is located east of the Yuhe River in Datong City, on the eastern shore of Wenyin Lake. The terrain is flat and the scenery is beautiful. To the south lies the Hudong Marshalling Yard of the Daqin Railway; the Datang Highway and the Beijing-Datong Expressway run along the southern edge of the zone, while the Dayang Highway runs through the zone. To the north lies the Beijing-Baotou Railway, and to the east is the Jiezhuang Station of the Datong-Zhungeer Railway. It is 5 kilometers from Datong Civil Aviation Airport.The South City District is situated in a prime location on both sides of Xinjian South Road at the southern end of Datong’s urban area. It is the national-level development zone in the northwest of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region that is closest to the capital.
Industrial Foundation
The development zone has preliminarily established an industrial layout centered on pharmaceuticals and equipment manufacturing as its pillars, supported by new energy, new materials, electronic information, general aviation, commerce and logistics, and food processing. The zone has 151 “four-above” enterprises, including 59 industrial enterprises above designated size;There are 16 high-tech enterprises, with high-tech output value accounting for more than 70% of the total output value of all large-scale industrial enterprises in the zone; there are 21 import-export enterprises, with export volume accounting for more than 70% of the city’s total.
Pharmaceutical Manufacturing: There are currently 11 large-scale enterprises, with products covering five major series: chemical active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), chemical preparations, biological preparations, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) decoctions and preparations, and medical devices.Key enterprises include Sinopharm Group Weichida Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Shanxi Pude Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Shanxi Zhendong Taisheng Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., and Tongyao Group. Sinopharm Group Weichida holds the top global position in the production and sales of potassium clavulanate, and ranks first nationally in the export volume of 7-ACA and 6-APA;
Equipment Manufacturing: There are currently 24 enterprises above designated size. Key enterprises include China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Datong Gear Co., Ltd., Shaanxi Automobile Datong Special Purpose Vehicle Co., Ltd., and Datong Tonghua Mining Machinery Co., Ltd. Datong Gear Group ranks fourth in the domestic automotive transmission industry.
