Sanming City, prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province, is located in the west and northwest of Fujian Province, with Fuzhou City to the east, Jiangxi Province to the west, Quanzhou City to the southeast, Longyan City to the southwest, and Nanping City to the north, with a total area of 22,965 square kilometers. As of the end of 2021, Sanming City has 2 districts and 8 counties under its jurisdiction, with 1 county-level city in its stead. The Municipal People's Government is located at 412 Xinshi North Road, Sanyuan District. As of the end of 2022, Sanming City had a resident population of 2,455,000, and the urbanization rate of the resident population was 64.4%. From the winter of 1949 to the spring of 1950, Sanming was liberated, and in July 1956, Sanyuan and Mingxi counties were merged to form Sanming County, which was subordinate to the Nanping Special Administration; in January 1960, the Sanming People's Commune Preparatory Committee was renamed the Sanming City People's Committee (for the provincial jurisdiction of Sanming City), and the establishment of the Sanming County was restored in November 1961, and the establishment of the Sanming Commissioners Office was approved by the State Council in May 1963, which downgraded the city to a prefecture-level municipality. In May 1963, the State Council approved the establishment of the Sanming Commissioner's Office, which downgraded Sanming City to a prefecture-level city, and in April 1983, with the approval of the State Council, the former prefecture-level city of Sanming City was changed to a province-level city, and the Sanming District Administrative Office was abolished. Sanming is a rich and fertile city, a major grain-producing area in Fujian, a key forest area, a tourist area, an old revolutionary area and an emerging industrial base; it is also a civilized city in China. Historically, Sanming is an important transit point for the Hakka ancestors to move southward, and an important residence for the Hakka people to form and flourish, with a profound Hakka culture, making it the famous Hakka Ancestral Land. Sanming is the source of the Min people, the source of the Min River, the source of the Min school, the source of the Min teacher, the red land, Zhu Xi, Yang Shi, Luo Congyan, Huang Shen, Yi Bingshou and other historical and cultural celebrities were born in S. Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, and other revolutionaries of the older generation were engaged in important revolutionary practices in Sanming. In 2023, Sanming City realized a gross regional product of 300.710 billion yuan, an increase of 1.8% over the same period of the previous year.
