Hanjiang District, attached to Putian City, Fujian Province, is located in the northeastern part of Putian City, the middle of the coast of Fujian Province, bordering Xinghua Bay, mountains and the sea, and Taiwan Province, separated by water, with a total area of 752 square kilometers. It is 13 kilometers from downtown Putian and 93 kilometers from Fuzhou, the provincial capital. As of October 2022, Hanjiang District has 2 streets, 9 towns and 1 township under its jurisdiction, and another development zone.
In the first year of Tang Zhenguan (627), the area was surrounded by the sea to make fields, and built a culvert (i.e., sluice gate) to drain water, so it was called Hantou (i.e., the earliest place name of Hanjiang). According to Ming Hongzhi "Xinghua Fu Zhi" records: Song Dynasty, "Liu's first open water heart River", began to have "Hanjiang" of the name.
Hanjiang is a thousand-year-old town in Putian area, and is one of the four major towns in Fujian, known as "the scenery of small Wuyue, goods A Zhangquan" reputation.
