Wayao Town, belonging to Longyang District, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province, is located in the northeastern part of Longyang District, at the southern foot of Daoren Mountain, facing the Lancang River in the east and Bonan Town, Yongping County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, across the river, bordering with Banqiao Town in the south, adjoining Wafang Yi and Miao Townships and Caojian Township, Yunlong County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, in the west, and intersecting with Old Prefecture Township, Yunlong County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, as far as Daoren Mountain in the north, with an administrative area of 460.97 square kilometers. As of the end of 2019, the household population of Wayao Town was 37,793.
During the Qing Dynasty, it was Wayao Gangtoudi; in 1988, the district was withdrawn to establish a township; in October 2005, the administrative division of some townships in Longyang District was adjusted, and Wayao Town was set up. As of June 2020, Wayao Township has 25 administrative villages under its jurisdiction, and the township people's government is located in Wayao Village.
In 2019, Wayao Town has 38 industrial enterprises, including 6 above scale, and 36 comprehensive stores or supermarkets with business area over 50 square meters.
