Kunming High-Tech Zone is Yunnan Province’s first national-level high-tech industrial development zone, established in 1992 with the approval of the State Council. In April 2012, it was designated by the Ministry of Science and Technology as one of the first pilot zones nationwide for the “Construction of National Innovative Specialized Parks.” It currently comprises two areas: the established zone (5 square kilometers) located in the northwest of Kunming’s main urban area, and the New City High-Tech Industrial Base (86.88 square kilometers) located in Majinpu Subdistrict, Chenggong District.
Since its establishment, Kunming High-Tech Zone has adhered to the principle of “developing high technology and achieving industrialization.” It has vigorously developed high-tech industries, continuously enhanced its innovation capabilities, actively promoted a shift in development paradigms, and steadily expanded the scale and strength of the zone. It has evolved into a pilot demonstration zone for reform and opening-up at both the municipal and provincial levels, a key base for the clustering and development of high-tech industries, a primary arena for investment promotion, and a pioneer in the development of park-based economies and industrial infrastructure.
