Yuji District is subordinate to Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, the ancient name of "Wei Yu", is located in the central Shanxi Province, Taiyuan Basin, east of Shouyang County, Heshun County junction, the west with the Qingxu County adjacent to the south with the Taigu District border, northwest of Taiyuan City connected to the city of Jinzhong is the center of the political, economic, transportation, an area of 1,318 square kilometers. Yuji District, west and Taiyuan Xiaodian District, Taiyuan City, the junction of Taiyuan Wuxu International Airport, known as the "gateway to the provincial capital" of the name.
In the Spring and Autumn Period, Yuji was called "Tu Shui" and "Wei Yu", and in the Warring States Period, it was called "Yuji". 1948, Yuji Prefecture was set up, and Yuji City was established in 1954. On September 24, 1999, Yuji City was abolished and renamed as Yuji District of Jinzhong City. Under the jurisdiction of nine streets, five towns and four townships, counting 71 communities and 208 administrative villages. The city flower is the moonflower and the city tree is the acacia. According to the seventh census data, as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, the resident population of Yuzi District was 904,518.In 2023, the gross regional product (GDP) of Yuzi District was completed at RMB 34.59 billion, an increase of -2.3% from 2022.Yuzi District is one of the largest cities in Shanxi Province.
Yuzi is one of the top ten counties and cities in Shanxi Province in terms of comprehensive indicators, a national ecological demonstration area, a national cultural advanced area, and the hometown of Jin merchant culture in China. With its deep cultural heritage, beautiful natural scenery, prosperous science, education and cultural undertakings, and various economic indicators perennially ranking first in the city, it is the bridgehead and general engine of the 108 comprehensive development corridor belt and the city's fourfold development.
In March 2019, it was listed as the first batch of revolutionary cultural relics protection and utilization of piece of the list of districts and counties.
