Chongming District belongs to the Shanghai Municipality of China, located at the mouth of the Yangtze River, the whole district is flat, consisting of Chongming, Changxing and Hengsha islands, with a total area of 1,411 square kilometers, of which Chongming Island is the world's largest estuarine alluvial island, and also China's third largest island after Taiwan Island and Hainan Island. Chongming Island is known as "the gateway to the Yangtze River", "East China Sea Yingzhou" reputation, a total land area of 1,267 square kilometers. Changxing Island is located in the south branch of the Yangtze River outside Wusongkou, with a total land area of 88 square kilometers. Hengsha Island is the easternmost island at the mouth of the Yangtze River, with a total land area of 56 square kilometers. Chongming, Changxing, Hengsha three islands into each other's horns, forming Chongming District, under the jurisdiction of 16 towns and 2 townships. The total household population of the three islands is 688,000 people. In addition to the Han Chinese, there are also Mongolian, Hui and other ethnic minorities living in Chongming District. Chongming has a history of more than 1300 years, through five generations, culture and history. "Chong" takes the meaning of high, "Ming" takes the meaning of clear, "Chongming" means high above the water but also flat and broad clear flat land. It is one of the first national experimental demonstration zones for sustainable agricultural development.
