Minhang District is located in the entire territory of Shanghai's abdomen, shaped like a [key], the Huangpu River runs through the north and south of it, subdivided into two parts of Pudong, Puxi, east of Xuhui District, Pudong New District; south of the Huangpu River and Fengxian District; west of the Songjiang District, Qingpu District border; north of the Changning District, Jiading District, adjacent to; Hongqiao International Airport is located in the border of the district. Minhang is the main external transportation hub of Shanghai, an important industrial base, science and technology and aerospace new area in the southwest, it is also one of the suburbs closest to the city center of Shanghai. The district is home to a number of colleges and universities, including Shanghai Jiaotong University (Minhang Campus) and East China Normal University (Minhang Campus), as well as a number of third-funded enterprises.In May 2016, Minhang District was named the fourth batch of national intellectual property demonstration cities by the State Intellectual Property Office.In 2017, Minhang District was re-recognized as a national sanitary city (district).
