Square Creek Township is located on the southwest bank of Dadu River, 12.5 kilometers away from the city of Shawan. The township covers an area of 32.47 square kilometers, with the Chengkun Railway and Provincial Highway 103 running through it. It has 8 administrative villages, 52 villagers' groups and 1 community neighborhood committee, including Fumin, Shuangshan, Yongli, Square Creek, Huli, Zhaizi, Hongyan and Yumin. The total population is 4,343 (2017).
On March 25, 2019, Zhaanxi Township was awarded "the third batch of provincial forest towns in Sichuan Province".
On December 13, 2019, the People's Government of Sichuan Province adjusted the administrative divisions of some townships in Leshan City, abolished the township, and set up the township, with the former township and the former Gongzui Township Gongzui community, Jinniu Village, Wanping Village, Changjiang Village, Yanggang Village, Liugou Village, Groups 1 to 13 belonging to the administrative area of the township, with the people's government of the township stationed at No. 37, Jingxixing Road.
