Leshan City, ancient name Jiazhou, Jiadingzhou, also known as String City, prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Sichuan Province, is located in central Sichuan, southwestern Sichuan Basin, the terrain southwest high, northeast low, belongs to the middle subtropical climate zone, with a total area of 12,720.03 square kilometers. As of October 2022, the city has 4 districts and 6 counties under its jurisdiction, with 1 county-level city in its stead. As of the end of 2022, the city had a resident population of 3.153 million.
In the twelfth year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1734), Leshan County was established in Jiading Prefecture. Leshan City is an important industrial city in Sichuan, a regional center city in the south of Chengdu Economic Zone, an important hub city, an important transportation node in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration and a port city. The Chengkun Railway and Chenggui High Speed Railway run through the whole city. Leshan three rivers converge, Dadu River, Qingyi River in Leshan at the foot of the Great Buddha into the Min River. Leshan is a famous national historical and cultural city, with the reputation of "Begonia Fragrance Country", and is one of the first cities open to the outside world, a national model green city, China's excellent tourist city, a national garden city, and a national health city. Leshan has three world-class heritages - the World Natural and Cultural Heritage Emei Mountain and Leshan Giant Buddha, the World Irrigation Heritage Dongfengyan, etc. It has also been recognized as a national pilot city for intellectual property rights, and has been included in the list of National Model Cities (Counties) of Double Embrace, and has been included in the scope of the planning of the BaShu Cultural and Tourism Corridor.
In 2023, Leshan City will realize a gross domestic product (GDP) of 244.75 billion yuan, an increase of 6.5% over the previous year, 0.5 percentage points higher than the province.
