Tongliao City, formerly known as Zherimu League, prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is located in the eastern part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, east of Siping City, Jilin Province, west of Chifeng City, Xilin Gol League, south of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, Fuxin City and Tieling City, north of Xing'an League, as well as the Jilin Province of the Baicheng City, Songyuan City, neighboring, is located in the mid-latitudes, the middle-temperate, arid and semi-arid, continental monsoon climate, with a total area of 59,535 square kilometers. As of October 2022, the city has 1 district, 1 county and 5 banners under its jurisdiction, with 1 county-level city in its stead. As of the end of 2022, the city had a resident population of 2,834,600. On January 13, 1999, the Zhelim League was abolished and the prefecture-level city of Tongliao was established. Tongliao is one of the birthplaces of the Mongolian nation, and the horqin grassland has produced and circulated the famous three major narrative folk songs of horqin (Han Xiuying, Danabala, and Gadamerin) and thousands of short-key folk songs. Tongliao territory has Jingtong, Tong let, Dazheng, Tonghuo, set of five railroad intersection, has opened the "Tongman Europe" international freight liner, is the national implementation of the "One Belt, One Road" and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to promote the opening up of an important strategic node to the north, is located in the Bohai Sea Economic Circle, Northeast Economic Zone and Northeast Asia Economic Circle, is the intersection center of Northeast and North China; Tongliao Civil Aviation Airport can take off and land Boeing 737 and other large and medium-sized passenger planes, Tongliao Railway Station is one of the country's 36 railroad hub grouping station.In December 2018, it was identified as the second batch of China's characteristics of agricultural products advantageous area.In October 2020, it was named as the national model city (county) of double embrace. In 2023, Tongliao realized a gross regional product of 160.9 billion yuan, an increase of 5.2% over the previous year.
