Panjin, also known as Crane Township, Oil City, prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Province, the State Council approved the determination of China's important petroleum and petrochemical industrial base, one of the important center of the Liaoning coastal economic zone. Panjin is located in the southwest of Liaoning Province, in the center of the Liaohe Delta, the Liaohe River at the mouth of the sea, the terrain is flat, water and no mountains, is China's northernmost coastline, with a total area of 4,062.34 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, the city has 1 county and 3 districts under its jurisdiction, with a resident population of 1.39 million.
On June 5, 1984, Panshan County was abolished and Panjin City was established. Panjin is the headquarters of the Liaohe Oilfield, is a "petrochemical new city", the edge of the oil and built because of the oil and the rise of the rich underground deposits of oil, natural gas, wells salt and other mineral resources; is also a beautiful ecological city; to the Red Beach National Scenic Corridor based on the red beach scenic area is a national 5A scenic spot, Liaoning Province, an excellent tourist attractions; the territory of Tianzhuangtai is a national scenic spot in the Sino-Japanese Armored War, the city is the most important tourist attraction in China. Tianzhuangtai is the last battlefield of Sino-Japanese Sino-Japanese land war, is a patriotic education base.
Panjin is a pilot city for the construction of a "waste-free city", a national food safety demonstration city, a national agricultural product quality safety city, a pilot city for the standardization of national government services, a pilot city for national cultural consumption, a pilot city for the reform of home and community-based elderly care services, a national civilized city, a national sanitary city, a national garden city and an international wetland city. On April 27, 2020, the State Council agreed to set up a comprehensive pilot zone for cross-border e-commerce in Panjin.
In 2023, Panjin realized a gross regional product of 138.21 billion yuan, an increase of 1.7% over the previous year.
