Dongtai City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, administered by Yancheng City, is located in the central part of Jiangsu Province, the southernmost part of Yancheng City, with latitude of 32°33′~32°57′ north and longitude of 120°07′~120°53′ east, and a total area of 3,175.67 square kilometers. Located on the east coast of the Asian continent at mid-latitude, Dongtai City has a northern subtropical monsoon climate with four distinct seasons, abundant rainfall, rain and heat in the same season, and plenty of sunshine. As of October 2022, Dongtai City has 14 townships and 7 township-level units under its jurisdiction. The Municipal People's Government is located in Dongtai Town.At the end of 2022, Dongtai City had a resident population of 886,300, with an urbanization rate of 60.47%. Dongtai is known as Yan, also known as Xixi, Dongting, etc. In the 33rd year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1768), Dongtai County was set up in the northeast of Taizhou in nine fields and four townships, and belonged to Yangzhou Prefecture. in December 1987, the State Council approved the withdrawal of Dongtai from the county to establish a city (county level) under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province. in January 1988, the Jiangsu Provincial Government issued a document to make it clear that it would still be under the leadership of the management of the city of Yancheng. There are two train stations in Dongtai, Dongtai Station (passenger and freight transportation) and Fu'an Station (freight transportation). Dongtai is famous for producing salt since ancient times. Dongtai City is a national garden city and China's excellent tourist city. since 2019, it has been named 2019 National Top 100 Counties and Cities of Comprehensive Strength and 2019 National Top 100 Counties and Cities of Green Development. With a long history, Dongtai City has scenic spots such as Guoguo Zen Temple, Maituo Temple, Huanghai Forest Park, and Dong Yong Seven Immortals Cultural Park. Among them, the Dong Yong Legend is listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. In 2022, Dongtai City will realize a GDP of 105.052 billion yuan, an increase of 4.7% at comparable prices, with the ratio of added value of the three industries at 15:36.3:48.7; and a per capita GDP of 118,215 yuan, an increase of 4.7%.
