Haimen District, under Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, is located in the southeastern part of Jiangsu Province, on the north bank of the Yangtze River, bordering the Yellow Sea in the northeast and the Yangtze River in the south, and connected to Chongming District of Shanghai City in the southeast, bordering Qidong City in the east, and adjoining Tongzhou District and Chongchuan District of Nantong City in the west and north, and across the river from Shanghai, with a total area of 1,148.71 square kilometers. The People's Government of Haimen District is located at No. 600 Beijing Middle Road, Haimen Street. Haimen County was established in the fifth year of the Xiande period of the Later Zhou Dynasty (958), under the jurisdiction of Tongzhou, and in 2020, Haimen City was abolished and Haimen District was established. Two dialects are spoken in Haimen, the Haimen dialect, which belongs to the Shadi dialect, and the Sijia dialect, which belongs to the Tongdong dialect, both of which belong to the Taihu Lake dialect of the Wu language. The terrain of the territory is flat with ditches and rivers. It belongs to the north subtropical monsoon climate zone with four distinct seasons.
