Xuanwu District is located in the central part of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, one of the eight districts of the main city of Nanjing, an important national scientific research, cultural and business center, and a base for modern service industry in East China, and the seat of Nanjing Municipal Party Committee, Nanjing Municipal Party Committee and many provincial and municipal organs, as well as the seat of the Eastern Theater of Operations, Eastern Theater of Operations, Air Force and other heads of the army.
Xuanwu District was founded in the twenty-second year of the Republic of China (1933), from the first district of the Republic of China, because "China's largest royal garden lake" Xuanwu Lake is located in the territory, so the name Xuanwu District. Xuanwu District is the Eastern Wu, Eastern Jin Dynasty and Southern Song, Qi, Liang, Chen and other six dynasties of the Imperial Palace, the Imperial Palace of Nanjing in the Ming Dynasty, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, the site of the Presidential Palace of Nanjing, there are the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, Zijinshan Mountain, the Jimei Temple, the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, the Ming City Walls and other historical and cultural relics, with the integration of the mountains, the water, the city, the forest in one of the unique style, is one of the most concentrated tourist attractions in Nanjing.
In Xuanwu District, there are 9 colleges and universities such as Southeast University, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing Agricultural University, etc. and 22 research institutes such as Nanjing Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, etc., which are concentrated with nearly one-third of academicians of the "two academies" in Jiangsu Province and half of key laboratories at provincial level or above in Nanjing City. The Nanjing Museum, one of the three largest museums in China, the Nanjing Library, the fourth largest library in Asia, and the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, known as "the cradle of modern astronomy in China", are all located in the district.
