Donghai County, belonging to Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province, is located in the northeast of Jiangsu Province, bordering with Haizhou District of Lianyungang City in the east, reaching Maling Mountain in the west, neighboring Shuyang County and Guanyun County in the south and Ganyu District of Lianyungang City in the northeast along Xinshu River. It is known as the Crystal Capital of the World and the Hometown of Hot Spring in China. With a total area of 2,040.9 square kilometers, it has jurisdiction over 19 townships (farms), 2 streets, 1 provincial-level economic development zone, 1 provincial-level high-tech zone and 1 provincial-level tourism resort. As of the end of 2022, the resident population of Donghai County was 1,041,900 people. Donghai is world-famous for its crystal wonders. Donghai crystal, approved as a national protected product of geographical indications, is now stored in the China Geological Museum weighing 4.35 tons of "crystal king" that is from Donghai, Chairman Mao crystal coffin is also refined from Donghai crystal. Donghai Hot Spring is located in the southern foot of Mount Yu, with a geothermal area of 2.4 square kilometers, known as "the first hot spring in East China". Donghai enjoys the reputation of "County of Hundred Lakes", and three lakes, including Xishuang Lake, are connected by the Yudai River. Donghai has a long history, the Qin Dynasty was set up in Qu County, the first year of the Republic of China (1912), the change of Haijhou Direct State for Donghai County, the county seat is located in the present-day Haijhou City. The ruins of Daxianzhuang, Quyang Ancient City, Yinwan Han Tomb, and Maling Ancient Road have inherited 50,000 years of human civilization. It has cultivated such historical and cultural celebrities as Baozhao, a poet of the Southern Dynasty, Zhu Lu, the Prince Shaofu of the Qing Dynasty, Zhu Ziqing, a modern essayist, and Yan Han, a contemporary printmaker.
