Kandal is a province in the south of Cambodia, bordering Vietnam to the south and completely encircling Phnom Penh, the capital, which is not part of the province. The Mekong River flows along the eastern border and the Bassa River runs through it. The capital city is Dak Mau. It is divided into 11 districts, and on May 26, 2006, it became a friendship city with Liuzhou City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China.
