Kratie is the capital city of Kratie Province in eastern Cambodia. The town has a population of about 38,215 and is situated on the banks of the Mekong River. The town is dominated by a central market surrounded by old French colonial buildings. Red trees grow along the riverbanks; the town also includes large islands with white sandy beaches. A section of the river north of the city is inhabited by a rare group of short-nosed dolphins. The dolphins are the town's main tourist attraction.
