Shunde District is one of the five administrative districts of Foshan City, Guangdong Province. Located in the south of Guangdong Province, the middle of the Pearl River Delta Plain, the southwestern border of Guangzhou-Foshan city, Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhao Economic Circle in the south, Foshan City, Guangzhou City is one of the important core areas of contact. Shunde is adjacent to the cities of Guangzhou, Zhongshan and Jiangmen, and close to Hong Kong and Macao in the south; it covers an area of 806 square kilometers, with 4 streets, 6 towns and 205 villages (communities) under its jurisdiction. As of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, the resident population of the district was 3,229,090 (7th Census). Shunde District is located in the hinterland of Guangfu culture in the Pearl River Delta, and has been economically developed, commercially prosperous, and culturally flourishing since ancient times. Shunde is one of the birthplaces of Cantonese Opera and Cantonese Opera, and is the "Hometown of Chinese Opera". Shunde's culinary culture has a long history and is famous all over the world. Shunde has been awarded the title of "Gourmet Capital of the World" by UNESCO and has the reputation of "Hometown of Chinese Chefs". From the Northern Song Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty, Shunde has produced 3 scholar-at-arms and 1 scholar-at-arms, 762 scholar-at-arms and 2,397 scholar-at-arms; it has also nurtured the poet Lijian, a master of poetry, calligraphy and painting in the Qing Dynasty, and the painting master Su Renshan, as well as other outstanding figures such as Bruce Lee, Lee Shau-kee, Cheng Yu-tung, Lo Ting-pong, Wu Yi-suen, Leung Kau-ku-kui, and Chen Feng-fu-chun. In 2021, Shunde District's annual GDP was 406.438 billion yuan, up 8.2% year-on-year. For eight consecutive years, Shunde has been ranked the first among the top 100 districts in China in terms of comprehensive strength, the 11th finalist of "China's Top 10 Demonstration Counties and Cities of Comprehensive Well-being", the first among the top 100 districts in China in terms of green development for two consecutive years, and the first among the five districts of Foshan City in terms of the index of building a government that satisfies the people.
