Foshan City, abbreviated as "Zen", is a prefecture-level city and megacity under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province. It is an important manufacturing base in China, an economic and trade center in the west wing of the Pearl River Delta region, and a comprehensive transportation hub, as determined by the State Council. As of 2022, the city has five districts under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 3797.72 square kilometers, a resident population of 9,552,300, an urban population of 9,095,700, and an urbanization rate of 95.22%.
Foshan City is located in South China, the middle of Guangdong Province and the hinterland of the Pearl River Delta, with its center located at 113°06' East Longitude and 23°02' North Latitude, which has a humid climate in the South Subtropical Monsoon, with a mild climate and abundant rainfall. Foshan is adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, east of Guangzhou City, south of Zhongshan City, and Guangzhou together constitute the "Guangzhou-Foshan Metropolitan Area", to promote the Guangzhou-Foshan co-city cooperation, to create an international metropolitan area. Together with Zhongshan, Foshan constitutes the "China-Foshan City", and together with Jiangmen, Foshan builds the "Jiang-Foshan Family". Foshan is an important node city of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Pearl River-West River Economic Belt, Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoxing Economic Circle and Guangzhou Metropolitan Area, and is one of the most developed regions in China in terms of private economy.
Foshan City is the core area of Guangfu culture, one of the birthplaces of Guangfu culture, with traditional cultures such as Cantonese opera, ceramics, paper-cutting, autumn colors, etc. Foshan City is a national historical and cultural city, historically one of the four gatherings and four famous towns under the sky in China, known as the hometown of ceramics, the hometown of martial arts, the hometown of Cantonese opera, the city of Chinese Dragon Boat and Dragon Lion Culture, the origin of Cantonese opera, and the place where the culture of Guangfu originated, flourished, and was inherited.
In 2023, the gross regional product of Foshan City was 1,327.614 billion yuan, an increase of 5.0%. Among them, the added value of primary industry is 22.878 billion yuan, up 4.7%; the added value of secondary industry is 751.372 billion yuan, up 6.2%; the added value of tertiary industry is 553.364 billion yuan, up 3.3%.
