Sanshui District is located in the central part of Guangdong Province, the northwestern end of the Pearl River Delta and the northwestern part of Foshan City. It is named after the confluence of the Xijiang River, Beijiang River and Suijiang River in its territory. It has a total area of 827.69 square kilometers. Sanshui is named after the confluence of the Xijiang, Beijiang, and Suijiang rivers in its territory. During the Qin Dynasty, it belonged to Nanhai County. From the Western Han Dynasty to the Eastern Jin Dynasty, it belonged to Panyu and Sihui Counties. It belonged to Nanhai and Gaoyao counties from Tang Dynasty to Ming Dynasty. Sanshui County was established in the fifth year of Jiajing (1526) of the Ming Dynasty.
Sanshui District has obvious advantages in transportation location, with Guangzhou-Mao Railway, Guangzhou-Zhuhai Railway, Guiguang (South Canton) high-speed railroad and Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoxing Intercity Railway, Zhaohua (Outer Ring Road of Zhuhai), West Second Ring Road, Erguang (Guangsan, Guanghe), Guangkun (Guangzhao), Guangming Expressway, Foqing-Cong (under construction), Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoxing (under construction) Expressway, G321, G324 National Highway and S118, S269, S361, S381 Provincial Roads crossing Sanshui. There are two freight import and export terminals, namely Sanshui Port and Southwest Port. The city has a strong manufacturing base and is an important production base for auto parts, medical equipment, automated machinery and equipment, electronic appliances, electronic and electrical engineering, and beverages and foodstuffs. Sanshui is known as "China's first affluent longevity township" and "China's beverage capital".
In 2021, the GDP of Sanshui District was 140.519 billion yuan, an increase of 8.6% over the previous year. Among them, the added value of primary industry is 4.395 billion yuan, the added value of secondary industry is 101.025 billion yuan; the added value of tertiary industry is 35.100 billion yuan, with an increase of 4.8%, and the contribution rate to GDP is 14.9%.
