Chancheng District, belonging to Foshan City, Guangdong Province, one of the five administrative districts of Foshan City, 34th among the top 100 districts of China's Comprehensive Competitiveness in 2023, is the political, economic, and cultural center of Foshan City, located in the central part of Guangdong Province, and the central district of Foshan City. Chancheng District is surrounded on three sides by the Nanhai District of Foshan City, and adjoins Shunde District to the southeast and south. It is about 30 kilometers away from the Liwan, Yuexiu, Tianhe, Haizhu, and Panyu districts of the Guangzhou Municipal District. As of 2021, Chancheng District is under the jurisdiction of Nanzhuang Town and four streets, Zumiao, Shiwan Town and Zhangcher, with 147 villages (communities) and a total area of 153.88 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, the resident population of Chancheng District was 1,330,700 people.
Zumiao Street in Chancheng District, formerly known as Foshan Town, is one of the four most famous towns in ancient China, the world's four largest gatherings, one of the birthplaces of Lingnan culture and the National Historical and Cultural City, is known as the hometown of martial arts, the hometown of adult medicines, the hometown of folk art, and densely preserved eight historical and cultural neighborhoods. Chancheng is the resident of political, financial, cultural, transportation and information center of Foshan City, and the tertiary industry is highly developed in Foshan. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Chancheng was the largest commodity distribution center in southern China, and was listed as one of the "Four Great Gatherings" (Beijing, Foshan, Suzhou and Hankou) in China. Chancheng District is the birthplace of Cantonese opera and one of the birthplaces of Lingnan culture.
In 2022, Chancheng District will realize a GDP of 228.381 billion yuan, an increase of 3.1% over 2021.
