Zherong County is a county under the jurisdiction of Ningde in Fujian Province, located in the northeastern part of Fujian Province, bordered by Fuding in the east, Fuan in the west, Taishun County in Zhejiang Province in the north, and Xiapu in the south, and lies between latitude 27°05'-27°19' (27°209') and longitude 119°43'-120°04' (119°897'), with major streams such as Longxi, Jiaoxi, Xixixi, and Dongxi. The soil in the territory is dominated by red and yellow loam, which is acidic and has a large area of developable mountains. Mineral deposits include iron, quartz, lead and zinc, alum and sulfur. Scenic spots include Dongshishan Scenic Spot, Xianyu Park, Mingyou Park's Tomb, Nine Dragons Well, Fengqi Ancient Residence and Yuan Tianlu Memorial Hall. Memorial sites include the former site of the Arsenal of the Eastern Fujian Independent Division and the martyrdom site of Ma Lifeng, Chairman of the Eastern Fujian Soviet Government. Zherong County is an inland mountainous county in northeastern Fujian, formerly known as Zheyang, where ancestors flourished as early as the Neolithic Age and before the Shang and Zhou Dynasties. Since ancient times, it has been the junction of Fujian and Zhejiang commodity distribution center, known as the "throat of Fujian and Zhejiang". As of 2020, the area of Zherong County is 543.9 square kilometers. As of June 2023, there are 2 towns and 7 townships under the jurisdiction of Zherong County. According to the seventh national census, as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, the resident population of Zherong County was 92,989 people. Since ancient times, Zherong County has been a trading point on the border between Fujian and Zhejiang provinces, one of the 55 counties and cities in the country approved by the State Council to open up to the outside world, and a national ecological demonstration area. The window of paper-cutting in Zherong has become the only provincial cultural industry demonstration base in Ningde City. It has the reputation of "Hometown of Chinese Crown Prince Ginseng", "Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art" (paper-cutting), and Hometown of Longevity in China. On September 25, 2018, it was awarded the honorary title of "2018 Comprehensive Demonstration County of E-commerce into Rural Areas" by the Ministry of Commerce.In December 2018, it was awarded the title of the second batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and counties.In April 2020, Zherong County met the conditions of poverty alleviation and withdrawal, and withdrew from the provincial poverty alleviation and development key counties in Fujian Province.
